LEON KILAT STREET

Pantaleon Villegas lived in the town of Bacong in Negros Oriental. He worked in a pharmacy in Cebu owned by a German and worked as a jock in horseracing. He is well mannered, respectful, approachable, sociable, talkative and convincing in his speech. He came to Cebu by the order of the President of the short-lived Philippine Republic. He was designated Colonel of the Second Division of the Cebu Revolutionary Center which fought and harassed the Americans who were stationed in this province. He fought the well-equipped United States Army in the hills of Buhisan. In this major battle for which the invaders paid dearly, one of the officers under his command was Gen. Lorego.

His used of the various paraphernalia such as nating-anting were believed to have made him invincible and has caught the interest of his comrades. It was said that he had numerous amulets that kept him from harm. An unnamed man also said that he has seen Pantaleon rode on a handkerchief on his way to Cebu. Thus he earned the monicher "Leon Kilat (Lion Lightning)".

In the afternoon of Maundy Thursday of 1898, Pantaleon and other Katipuneros marched helplessly and wounded to the southern Cebu in the town of Carcar.  Pantaleon was killed on Good Friday by his right hand man.

The Leon Kilat Street is a tribute to Pantaleon Villegas for his bravery and his love for his fellow citizens.
